Role Overview

As an ISEF Judge Mentor, you will guide exceptional high school students through flexible, paid research and capstone projects in science and engineering. You’ll be matched with students based on your professional background and their goals, and you’ll help them turn their curiosity into meaningful, competition-ready work.

Sessions focus on practical guidance, research insights and career development rather than academic tutoring. This role is ideal for someone who has seen firsthand what sets top student research apart and wants to help young researchers reach that level early in their journey.

What You’ll Do

• Mentor students one-on-one - Lead virtual sessions that guide students through their projects from idea to finished work
\n
• Research Project Guidance - Help students define a focused question, design a sound methodology and carry out projects in your area of expertise
\n
• Competition Readiness - Prepare students for science fairs like Regeneron ISEF, including building strong posters, keeping thorough project notebooks and handling judge interviews with confidence
\n
• Share a Judge’s Perspective - Give students honest feedback on creativity, rigor and presentation based on what you’ve seen work at the highest level
\n
• Build Practical Skills - Introduce students to how researchers work, including reading literature, analyzing data and presenting findings clearly
\n
• Career Development - Advise students on majors, programs and opportunities that align with their interests and long-term goals
\n
• Collaborate with Internal Teams - Work with our Student Success team to keep each student’s project aligned with their broader goals
\n

What Skills And Experience You’ll Need

\n
• Current or past experience as a Grand Award or Special Award Judge at Regeneron ISEF
\n
• Advanced degree or significant professional experience in a science or engineering field
\n
• Passion for mentoring young people and making research accessible
\n
• Ability to explain advanced concepts to high school students without losing rigor
\n
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to give clear, structured feedback
\n
• Reliability and professionalism when working independently in a remote setting
\n
• Experience judging at regional or state science fairs is a plus
\n
